Raagen Light Transmission Meter: Precise Measurement for UNECE R43 Compliance
The Raagen Light Transmission Meter is a sophisticated instrument designed for the precise determination of light transmittance in glass samples according to the established methods outlined in UNECE Regulation No. 43 (ECE R43). This regulation plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and functionality of window panes on vehicles, display components, and various other applications where light transmission is a crucial factor.
Technical Functionality:
Light transmittance, defined as the visually perceived permeability of light through a material, is a relative measurement. The Raagen meter employs a differential approach, comparing the luminance within a defined light path with and without the test sample present. The instrument utilizes a light source calibrated to standard illuminants (Type A, C, or D50) and a receiver with spectral responsivity that closely matches the human eye's response to light.
This meter excels at measuring light transmittance in a variety of sample types, including thin films, scratched surfaces, and clear glass. The innovative d/0° measurement geometry leverages an integrating sphere light source and a luminance measurement device. Both the source and receiver detectors feature diode array spectrometers, enabling the meter to precisely simulate required standard source spectra and the receiver's photometric responsivity. During measurement, the sample is positioned in front of the light source, and diffuse illumination ensures accurate results even for thin or scratched samples. For haze measurements, a manually selectable light trap is implemented.
Key Features:
